August 5, 1930 – Astronaut Neil Armstrong is born

Neil Alden Armstrong, the first American to walk on the Moon, was born August 5, 1930. Armstrong would fly in Gemini 8 and Apollo 11 for NASA.

When Armstrong stepped on to the Moon July 20, 1969 he paused briefly then spoke these immortal words, “That’s one small step for a man; one giant leap for mankind.”
