Astronaut Wheelock of STS-120 is awed by the views of earth from space

Astronaut Dan Wheelock, from Windsor, New York, is enjoying his first trip into space aboard Discovery STS-120.

Steph and Dan, that’s good flying,” astronaut Doug Wheelock said as the robotic arm maneuvered him to the shuttle from inside the Destiny laboratory module.

“Man, I’m just staring off into deep space, I don’t have anything to reference. It’s awesome. What an awesome view.”

“We’ve got eyeballs on you, though, you’re looking great,” assured shuttle pilot George Zamka.

“It’s beautiful,” Wheelock said, supported at the end of the robotic arm with the blue earth silhouetted against the blackness of space.

  1. This astronaut’s name is Douglas Wheelock. The article’s subtitle confuses two astronauts.
